Seneca College – Computer Programmer
Haven’t made a post in awhile, and I am starting college relatively soon, so I figured I’d make a new post about college.
I’m starting college this fall at the York campus in Toronto at Seneca for Computer Programmer and I can’t wait! I’m really excited. I just had my tour of the college last week and I’m really excited. The campus is HUGE!!! There’s a mall and everything right in the campus. Me just getting out of high school, I was so shocked at seeing… well, everything right there. It’s awesome
I’ll be focusing on C, C++ and Java for languages and I’ll be working in Windows, Linux and IMB environments. I’m moving up to Toronto from Brockville on the 17th of August to get settled and I can’t wait to move.
Open Source All The Way!
Not sure if anyone else here is open source, but I decided to make the switch to use open source software instead of commercial-based software. I use Ubuntu as my main OS and being an avid user, decided to migrate the Ubuntu way right on Windows by using many open source alternatives. I’m sure a lot of users here don’t use Linux, but I for one do, and I will always stand by the Ubuntu philosophy:
“A person with Ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, for he or she has a proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that he or she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others are humiliated or diminished, when others are tortured or oppressed.”
For anyone interested in using open source software, here are a few links to great sites with alternatives to pretty much any software out there, for free. No, I am not linking you to pirated software. I am linking you to open source, free and legal software.

Fuged iPhone – Won’t Boot
So my WiFi had been acting up lately on my iPhone after jailbreaking it with Spirit, so I decided to erase the phone while I was at school …and without access to a computer. Boy was THAT a stupid move. As soon as I hit the Erase All on the phone, it wouldn’t boot up at all. I was phone-less for the whole day and I am restoring it as we speak. I’ll probably leave the jailbreak scene for a bit cause I don’t really use much if not any of the Cydia apps.
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Release
So I decided to take the plunge and get the newest LTS release of Ubuntu 10.04, code-named “Lucid Lynx”. I absolutely love it! The integration of social networking right into the desktop is very cool, as well as the changed wallpaper/theme and boot screen.
Also, as many Ubuntu-users are very pleased with, Ubuntu now has support for the iPod Touch & the iPhone 3GS!!! There is no support for app-syncing, or updating the firmware/restoring, but fear not as it is being worked on. I am currently dual-booting Ubuntu and Windows 7 Pro at ease and haven’t had an issue yet. All in all, I am very pleased with Lucid Lynx and will definitely be staying with Ubuntu for as long as the community feels I’m a good ubunter
Hello World!
So I finally got my latest (and hopefully permanent!) blog live on the Internet. Will be a place where I talk about my day-to-day things and other fun stuff, including Linux and Programming.
